Fun Halifax Wedding 2010!

There are so many fabulous locations for weddings in Nova Scotia; the Cape Breton Highlands, White Point Beach, Oak Island and of course right here in Halifax. The majority of weddings I photograph take place in our fair city. I’ve often photographed old architecture, the lush Public Gardens and the crashing sea lined coast all at one wedding. Not many places have that much photographic potential – in my opinion anyway.

My first opportunity to work with April and Chris was during their engagement session. We trekked down along the coast and found a beautiful rocky shoreline and a dilapidated old building that just doesn’t want to fall down. I found this to be a wonderful symbol of longevity and strength, both are very important in a marriage of course. What a perfect element to add to an engagement photo!  Chris and April were fun and adventurous that day and again on their wedding day. We started the formal photos at Flemming park and used the Dingle tower as an architectural element in the first set of photos. Then we moved on to the Saraquay Club with it’s tree lined property and spectacular harbor view. Now after 2 hours of photos most people just want to sit down and eat supper, but not April and Chris! I didn’t even have to beg them to run down to the dock and grab a few sunset lit photos! I totally love these guys!

Wedding at Oak Island Resort Nova Scotia

It’s been a few weeks since I last posted. I’ve been going full tilt shooting weddings, meeting with Halifax brides to be and well you know, just working hard! Of course brides and grooms work hard too! They spend hours with me going from location to location, posing and smiling, so we can create the best photos. Yup, it is a collaboration. They are just as much a part of making their wedding photos memorable as I am.

Leo and Jenna traveled back to Nova Scotia for a seaside wedding and were thrilled with the opportunity to incorporate the beautiful beach in their formal photos. Oh and sunglasses – they needed those for the bright sunny day. You’ll see what I mean……

Fun with formal wear!

This was literally a whirlwind session. Three cousins were on their way to the prom and wanted some cool photo of themselves  in formal wear (ok, mom wanted them lol). I did my best to get a feel for their personalities and come up with ideas that would separate these simple photos from the countless grad and prom photos out there. I must say, I was impressed with how comfortable they were with themselves, and in front of the camera. Making great photos is truly a collaboration between photographer and subject.

First Wedding of 2010!

On May 1st, I kicked off the 2010 wedding season with the fun and fabulous Chelsey and Keith, shoes and a football. The shoes didn’t kick the football – you’ll see what I mean in a minute. Of course weddings are very much about the bride, but I always like to take a few GQ style photos of the groom.  After all, he’s a very important part of the big day. Checkout the sneak peek from Chelsey and Keith’s wedding, so this rambling post will make sense.
